Dr. Hyejin Shim completed her Ph.D. in the Statistics, Measurement, and Evaluation in Education (SMEE) program at the University of Missouri (MU), where she received in-depth training in quantitative methods with a specialization in psychometrics. Following her doctoral studies, Hyejin served as a postdoctoral research associate at the Laureate Institute for Brain Research (LIBR), where she expanded her research scope to encompass mental health, neuroscience, and the use of AI in automatic assessment generation. Currently, Hyejin is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Missouri Prevention Science Institute (MPSI) at MU. Hyejin’s research focuses on advancing latent variable models to analyze complex data patterns, applying psychometric methodologies to better understand biological and mental health processes, and enhancing the precision of health assessments. Her work includes three primary, interconnected projects: (1) improving psychometric measurement methods for specialized populations, (2) leveraging psychometric tools to support neurocognitive research, and (3) developing efficient methods for constructing psychometrically valid test instruments. These projects aim to bridge psychometrics with mental and behavioral health, facilitating the development of precise and innovative assessment tools to support clinical and research outcomes.
